Chard Gratin

Updated: Feb 27, 2025

I absolutely love chard and grow it every year in my vegetable garden. This beautiful French recipe is a perfect lunch or side dish to grilled meat or fish.

4 Servings

Ingredients:

4 stalks of chard

2 eggs

1 tbsp cornflour

250ml milk

250ml cream

1/2 tsp nutmeg

3 cloves of garlic, minced

S&P

A handful of grated cheddar or emmental

Instructions:

Heat the oven to 200c. Separate the chard stalks from the dark green leaves & slice both. Parboil the chard stalks for 2 minutes then add the green leaves for a further minute.

Drain & place both in an oven dish.

In a bowl, mix the eggs with the cornflour, milk, cream, nutmeg, garlic, S&P.

Pour the mixture over the chard & top with grated cheese.

Bake for 35-40 minutes.
