Devon Apple Bake

This cake is one of the most comforting out there. The combination of apples & almond is match made in heaven. Enjoy with fresh cream or vanilla ice cream.

Ingredients:

500gr cooking apples, peeled, cored & thinly sliced

Juice of 1/2 lemon

350gr flour

350gr sugar

2 tsp baking powder

4 eggs

2 tsp almond essence

220gr butter, melted


Heat the oven to 180c for fan assisted ovens & 200 for traditional ovens.

Toss the apple slices with the lemon juice & set aside.

In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar & baking powder.

Beat energetically as you add in the eggs, almond essence & melted butter.

Line a tray with a baking sheet & pour in half the batter. Ensure it is evenly layered befpre adding a layer of apple slices.

Add the other half of the batter & spread across the apples.

Bake for 1 hour to 1h15.

Leave to cool before transferring to a serving plate.

Add a sprinkle of powdered sugar over the top.
